Nikolai Vavilov was a Russian botanist, geneticist and agronomist. He was one of the great minds of the 20th century, but tragically died of starvation in prison under the Stalin regime.
Thomas Huxley was an English biologist who can truly be said to be one of the key intellectual figures of the nineteenth century. He acquired the nickname ‘Darwin’s Bulldog’ because of his vociferous defence of Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection.
